Alexandria National Museum

General Information

Alexandria National Museum is a major museum in Egypt that opened in 2003 in an Italian-style palace on Fouad Street. It contains more than 1,800 artifacts illustrating the history of Alexandria from the Pharaonic period through the Ptolemaic, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, and modern eras. The collection was gathered from leading institutions such as Egyptian Museum, Coptic Museum, and Museum of Islamic Art, along with artifacts recovered from underwater sites. The museum is arranged across three floors, moving chronologically from ancient Egyptian artifacts in the basement to Greco-Roman pieces on the ground floor and later Byzantine, Islamic, and modern exhibits on the upper floor, featuring notable works such as statues of Isis, marble portraits, coins, and a statue of Venus..
